Hotel valet parks Porsche underneath car

A hotel valet had a lucky escape — but the luxury sports car he was trying to park did not.

Australian media say the valet drove the soft-top Porsche Carrera under another vehicle Thursday outside the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Sydney.

Emergency workers cut the driver out from the Porsche as a crowd watched.

Matthew Talbot, the hotel’s director of sales and marketing, told the Australian Broadcasting Corp. the valet was “embarrassed and a little bit shocked” but was OK.

The larger vehicle was propped up and its wheels were anchored while the vehicles were separated. The black Porsche, its hood and front bumper crunched and dented, was then backed onto a tow truck.

Witness Jonathan Bayle said he thought a television show or movie was being shot.

The hotel said in a statement it was investigating.

Pennsylvania teen told she can’t graduate in Army sash because it ‘didn’t match school colors’

One Pennsylvania teen is upset that administrators at her high school shot down her request to graduate in her black and gold U.S. Army sash as it “didn’’t match school colors,” though she has signed enlistment papers and is headed to boot camp in August.

Despite her frustration, when Toni Kress attends graduation at Central Valley High School in Beaver County on June 1, she intends to respect school rules.

MEMORIAL DAY 2018: LARGEST PARADES IN THE US

“People are saying I’m going to be a rule breaker, but I have no intention of doing that at all. If the school says I’m not going to wear it, I’m not going to wear it. I’m not going to disrespect the school like that,” the senior said on “Fox & Friends” on May 29. “But if I do have a chance, I’ll wear it off stage.”

Her father, Wayne Kress, a U.S. Air Force veteran, voiced similar sentiments.

“I’m very disappointed in the school,” he agreed. “She worked hard for this. She went through the ROTC program through the school. In today’s world where we have kids out there eating Tide pods, she’s willing to stand up and fight for her country.”

Though Kress claims there is no mention in the school handbook of any rules that would bar her from wearing the military sash on the big day with her powder blue graduation gown, Principal Shawn McCreary has other thoughts.

“Our graduation is a formal ceremony,” McCreary recently told The Times. “We do not permit students to wear anything on their gowns that depicts what their future plans may be.”

He also added that students must wear the standard gown, and those who graduate with highest honors are awarded a sash. National Honor Society members, too, can sport a gold cord and a pin.

McCreary said that students entering the military are individually recognized by name, and a medley of military service songs will play during the graduation ceremony.

“I think we do a very good job at our commencement ceremony honoring the past, present and future military members,” he said.

Despite the controversy, Kress is excited for all that is ahead.

“I am really stoked to serve my country, it’s been my dream since I was a kid,” she told Fox and Friends.

Just days ago, in Nebraska, another high school senior spoke out for being denied the request to wear her Army sash at graduation as well.

Mario Batali’s Las Vegas Strip restaurants to close

Mario Batali’s three Las Vegas Strip restaurants will shut down July 27, officials said Friday, as the celebrity chef faces sexual misconduct allegations from multiple women.

Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group partner Joe Bastianich sent a letter to nearly 300 workers about the closures of Carnevino Italian Steakhouse, B&B Ristorante and Otto Enoteca e Pizzeria at The Venetian and Palazzo resorts. He promised to visit the restaurants to speak to employees.

MOM CLAIMS ALBERTSONS CASHIER SHAMED WOMAN USING WIC BENEFITS, NOT HAVING ENOUGH MONEY

The letter said Las Vegas Sands Corp., which owns both properties, was ending the business relationship. Sands Corp. issued a statement confirming the closure.

The move came days after police in New York confirmed an investigation into a woman’s claim on “60 Minutes” that Batali drugged and sexually assaulted her in 2005. Batali denies assaulting the woman.

A Batali & Bastianich Hospitality Group representative said the company decided to close the Las Vegas restaurants before the “60 Minutes” report aired, reported the Las Vegas Review-Journal, which is owned by the family of Sands chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson.

Fast food customer finds fingernail inside burger

One Culver’s restaurant patron bit off a little more than he wanted to chew last week.

Najib Anek was visiting the Peoria, Ariz., location of the fast food chain when he says he bit into his hamburger and found a fingernail lodged inside, about halfway through the sandwich, FOX8 reported.

“It was crunchy man,” Anek said to FOX 8.

Anek said he complained to the management and they apologized for the incident, but that did little to settle his stomach.

“I throw up three times,” Anek said.

“I keep thinking about it. I even dream about it. It was too much,” he added.

According to Anek, the surveillance video showed a female employee making his burger without gloves on and she was missing a fingernail.

“Yes, I called health department and I have a complaint number. The manager told us their insurance is looking into the situation and the fingernail offending employee is on leave,” he said to FOX 8.

Since the employee was placed on leave, Culver’s has reached out to Anek and offered him a free meal. However, Anek seemed uninterested in giving the restaurant another try.

“It wasn’t a good experience for me. And I will never eat here no more,” said Anek.

Man wanted for allegedly throwing hot coffee at McDonald’s manager face over price, police say

Police in Washington state are asking for the public’s help in identifying a man who they say threw hot coffee at a McDonald’s manager’s face on Friday after he became angry over the price of the beverage.

The unidentified suspect reportedly walked into the fast food restaurant in Lacey, Wash., early Friday morning and ordered a cup of hot coffee, the Lacey Police Department stated.

TRACE AMOUNTS OF OPIOID FOUND IN SHELLFISH OFF SEATTLE COAST: REPORT

However, investigators said the man became upset over the price of the coffee, which came to be $.97. The man poured the coffee into a travel mug and ordered the manager to give him a refill. The manager refused and asked the man to leave.

Before he left, the man threw the hot beverage on the manager before fleeing. Police said the manager suffered burns to her neck.

Police said the man “may be transient and have mental health issues.” He is wanted for simple assault.

2018 Ford Mustang GT test drive: Survival of the fittest

The Mustang isn’t Ford’s best-selling car, but it will be soon.

That’s because it will be the only true car the company sells in the U.S., as the brand switches to a lineup of mostly trucks and crossovers in a couple of years.

It’s doing alright now, though. The Mustang outsells the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger here, and Ford says it’s been the best-selling sports coupe in the world since the latest generation launched three years ago.

To keep the ball rolling, Ford updated it for 2018 with mildly redesigned front and rear styling, more soft-touch trim in the cabin and an available full-digital instrument cluster. But the biggest changes are heard and felt, not seen.

2018 mustang

Ford dropped the Mustang’s tried and true V6 engine, made its 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder the new base motor and gave the GT a more powerful V8. The 5.0-liter truly is one now, thanks to a switch from liners to spray-in cylinder coatings that increased its displacement from 4970 cc to 5030 cc.

A blend of port and direct fuel injection, along with a freer-flowing intake and sky-high 7,500 rpm redline help to increase output from 435 hp to 460 hp, making this the most powerful Mustang GT ever. (At least until the new Bullitt edition arrives later this year with a promised 480 hp.)

There’s a 10-speed automatic now, but a six-speed manual is still standard at the GT’s starting price of $36,090. Believe it or not, the stick accounts for more than half of GT sales these days. Either can be had with a few semi-autonomous driving assist features, including radar cruise control and pedestrian-detecting automatic emergency brakes.

Performance Pack Level 2 is accentuated by a lower, more aggressive stance, aerodynamically balanced high-performance front splitter and rear spoiler – all designed to add more downforce to attack curves for an exhilarating feel behind the wheel.

That’s great stuff on the street, where the Mustang remains an excellent cruiser, even without the optional computer-controlled MagneRide shock absorbers that are worth their weight in gold, not to mention their $1,695 price tag.

For the track, Ford offers two Performance Package options that make it quicker in a straight line and a round curves. The first costs $3,995 and comes with wide, sticky Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires on dark 19-inch wheels, a stiffer chassis and suspension with heavy duty springs, Torsen limited slip differential, Brembo front brakes, sportier stability control and anti-lock brake calibrations and a larger radiator to keep things cooler during hot lap sessions.

Ford claims one of these fitted with the 10-speed and set to its Drag Mode with launch control enabled will do 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds, while the rest of the changes sharpen the handling without messing up the on-road ride too much. It’s a nice compromise for someone who uses their Mustang as a daily driver but likes to put it through its paces sometimes.

2018 mustang

If you prefer doing the latter most of the time, you’ll want to check the box for the Performance Package 2, which costs $6,500, but is mandatorily bundled with another $2,000 package of comfort and entertainment features. It steps things up with foot-wide Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, standard MagneRide shocks, more extreme tuning across the board, and a jutting chin splitter that produces downforce to squeeze the front tires into the tarmac and can take out someone’s ankles if you’re not careful with it. The only caveat is that you can only order the PP2 on GTs with manual transmissions. Sorry, lazy boys and girls.

2018 mustang

Mustang Vehicle Engineering Manager Tom Barnes says the goal was to create a car that felt really alive. The kind of car that a track rat looking for the best handling might build for themselves, but with the bonus of factory integration and tuning for all of the modifications.

The incredibly responsive steering is the first thing you notice as those huge contact patches go to work, but the overall grip is monumental. During a couple of laps around a short circuit at the Monticello Motor Club, the PP2 felt right at home. It requires a recalibration of your expectations of what a Mustang GT should be able to do before you start getting anywhere close to the most out of it.

Unfortunately for me, it was a rainy, and those nearly slick steamroller tires turn into skates on anything resembling a puddle, so my time flying in it was limited. You have to tread lightly when things get wet. On public roads, the front tires keep your hands busy as they chase ruts and ridges in the pavement, too. Otherwise, a PP2 GT remains a very comfortable car. I drove one equipped with a set of racy and very huggy Recaro seats two hours from the office to the track and would happily do it again.

In fact, I did just that in the other direction at the end of the day.

Toddler hit by alleged street racer who killed her mother also expected to die

A 21-month-old child who was injured when a street racer struck and killed her mother in Tampa, Fla., earlier this week is not expected to survive either, according to police.

Jessica Reisinger, 24, was pushing her toddler’s stroller through a crosswalk Tuesday when they were hit by a black Ford Mustang driven by 18-year-old Cameron Herrin. The man was allegedly racing with a gold Nissan sedan on the city’s Bayshore Boulevard.

Fox 13 obtained an arrest affidavit on Wednesday stating that the toddler, Lillia Raubenolt, is likely to succumb to her injuries. She and her mother had come to Tampa from their home in Ohio, for a visit.

Police said that Reisinger was making a legal crossing at the divided four-lane road, on which the two cars were seen speeding and changing lanes prior to the collision, according to witnesses.

Police told the Tampa Bay Times that speeding is an ongoing issue on the waterfront boulevard that runs through one of the city’s most affluent neighborhoods.

Herrin and his 20-year-old brother Tristan, who was riding in the Mustang, were arrested along with the driver of the Nissan, 17-year-old John Barrineau.

$1.9 million Harley-Davidson is the world’s most expensive hog

Harley-Davidsons aren’t exactly the cheapest bikes on the block, but there’s only one on sale for $1.9 million, making it likely the most expensive new Harley on sale today.

It’s a collaboration between Swiss customizer Bundnerbike and high-end watchmaker Bucherer.

The bike started its life as a Softail Slim.

 (Harley-Davidson)

The iridescent blue hog started out as a Softail Slim, but was given an elaborate makeover with a unique frame and Art Nouveau-inspired styling. Many of the parts are gold plated, but that’s not why the price is so high.

The bike is equipped with two bulletproof compartments on its tank, with one housing a 5.4 carat diamond ring and the other a Bucherer watch that’s mounted to a vibration-proof silicon cage to protect its movement from the vibration of the classic V-twin engine underneath it.

Then ends of the handlebar grips are also decorated with diamond rings that were attached through a secret process designed to make sure they stay in place on the road.

Anyone bold enough to buy it and take it there also gets a matching watch to actually wear that has a band that looks like a tire tread.

Domino’s customer arrested after fighting with employees over his ‘pizza points’

A drunk man was arrested at a Dominos in Massachusetts after freaking out over his “pizza points.”

Shaune Wittenmeyer, 42, was taken into custody for disorderly conduct Friday after causing a scene at a Hyannis location of the chain restaurant, WBZ reports.

STARBUCKS EMPLOYEES, CUSTOMERS EXPRESS CONCERN OVER NEW POLICY: ‘I CAN’T SEE HOW THIS WILL WORK’

Police said an irate Wittenmeyer got into an argument with Dominos staff over the pizza points reward system. When he was asked to leave, he knocked pizza boxes out of a delivery driver’s hands.

Officers also noted he had “a strong odor of alcohol on his breath,” according to the Boston Herald.

Dominos offers a “Piece of the Pie Rewards” point system where every order of $10 or more earns you one point. 60 points can be redeemed for a free medium two-topping pizza.

After authorities had Wittenmeyer in handcuffs, he continued to put up a fight and began taunting the police officers, referencing recently murdered Yarmouth Police Sgt. Sean Gannon and saying he wished the officer on scene was the one who died.

Wittenmeyer was also charged with intimidating a witness. He was later released on $500 bail while he awaits arraignment.
